A man from Elgin, Illinois has been sentenced to six months in prison and more than $250,000 in restitution after he admitted to making fraudulent claims for slip and fall injuries at several Illinois businesses.
Juventino Guzman, 53, of Elgin, later admitted that he had faked these injuries in an attempt to collect insurance money. Guzman submitted four fraudulent claims to insurance companies between November 2011 and January 2013 in which he claimed to have been injured at businesses in Elgin and Carpentersville, Illinois. In addition, Guzman received $219,000 personal injury damages in April 2009 after he submitted a slip and fall claim with a false name and social security number.
As a result of his confessed fraud, police arrested Guzman and, on November 6, 2013, he pleaded guilty to aggravated insurance fraud and forgery. After he is released from prison, Guzman will serve 48 months of probation and must make monthly payments on his $250,000 restitution charges or he could face additional prison time.
