Teen Airlifted After Slip And Fall From Waterfall Tourist Attraction.

According to Jason Ferguson, the division chief of Botetourt County’s fire and EMS operations, his teams get three or four calls each year reporting accidents at Roaring Run Falls. Roaring Runs Falls is a popular Virginia attraction boasting a beautiful waterfall at the culmination of a three-quarter of a mile hike.

Marking the first injury of the season, an 18-year-old man fell from Roaring Run Falls Saturday afternoon. He suffered head injuries, but is expected to recover. According to Chief Ferguson, accidents tend to happen at Roaring Run Falls either because tourists miscalculate the depth of the water and jump, or they are unfamiliar with just how slippery the rocks atop the falls can get. The latter is what is suspected in this case. Based on the man’s head injuries, it is suspected that he slipped and fell off the rocks.

It took about two hours for rescue crews to reach the man. They carried him to a field where a helicopter was waiting to transport him to the hospital for treatment.
