Texas Woman Suffers Fatal Slip And Fall At Royal Gorge Bridge & Park In Colorado.

Slip and fall accidents account for more than one million hospital emergency room visits each and every year. About five percent of slip and fall accidents result in serious bone fractures, while many more result in bruising, back pain and other injuries. Tragically, a small number of slip and falls are fatal, either due to the age of the victim or other circumstances surrounding the accident. Alarmingly, falls are the leading cause of injury-related death for persons over the age of eighty-five.

The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park in Colorado welcomes thousands of visitors each and every day. With spectacular views and fresh air, the park is especially busy during the summer months. Although normally a site of adventure and enjoyment, the site became the home to tragedy on June 30, 2015. Forty-five-year-old Denise McLean of Wylie, Texas was last seen at the entrance to the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park parking lot. When reported missing, park officials launched a rescue search party. Sadly, as the evening turned to night, police were forced to call off the search until the following morning. The next day, park officials continued the search and located McLean’s body at just about 9:00 AM.

According to Inquisitr, McLean died from severe head trauma sustained when she slipped and fell an estimated four hundred feet. Police investigators do not suspect foul play, and believe the slip and fall was no more than a tragic accident. Although investigators cannot be sure, they believe McLean must have lost her footing standing atop the observation deck near some large rocks at the park site.

Park officials say this is the second fatal accident at a National Park in the last few months. Recently, a 29-year-old man visiting a Nevada National Park slipped and fell over a canyon’s edge. He had been visiting the park with his family, and died as a result of his injuries. Park officials hope to prevent more accidents like this one by remaining vigilant and making visitors more aware of the natural dangers that accompany an otherwise enjoyable outdoor excursion.
