Wargo Floors Inc., a flooring company, was hired by the school to install new floors in the high school’s hallways. On August 9, 2012, an employee of Wargo Floors visited Mangano’s office and asked if she could unlock a classroom door to provide the worker with better access to the door’s threshold. Mangano was happy to help, and got her key to assist the worker.
The worker, however, did not warn Mangano that he had just applied transparent and slippery adhesive to the floor, and no signs offered such information. As a result, Mangano slipped and fell on the adhesive, landing hard on her back. She suffered from intense nerve and back pain. She has been diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome, which although undetectable by MRI or x-ray, causes the skin to become hypersensitive to movement. Because of this condition, Mangano is unable to work.
She filed a slip and fall personal injury lawsuit against Wargo Floors seeking money compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, loss of future earning capacity, and other damages. The case was settled on April 7th before reaching a jury trial. Philly.com did not release the settlement amount.
