Amy Jo Sawyer fell down stairs at a Lisle Hotel in July 2013 in St. Clair, Illinois. The fall caused her to break her ankle and hurt her back.
Ms. Sawyer lost her balance before she fell down the staircase. She alleges that the reason for her fall was that the steps were spaced at an unusually wide distance from each other. She also claims that the stairs slope in an uneven direction. Additionally, there was no handrail alongside the staircase.
Ms. Sawyer has filed a lawsuit against the Hyatt Corporation, Area Properties LP, and the hotel’s manager, Robert Gubala. The suit was filed in the St. Clair County, Illinois Circuit Court. The suit asks for over $50,000 in damages for medical expenses and fees.
