On June 12, 2013, Paul Parker was a patient at the East Jefferson General Hospital in Gretna, Louisiana.  While walking in the hospital cafeteria, Mr. Parker slipped and fell on a puddle of water on the floor.  The puddle extended out from beneath a nearby ice machine.  The ice machine was next to a sink in the dining area.

While on the ground, Mr. Parker looked up to see that several hospital staff had seen him fall.  But rather than help the man who had just fallen, the staff members simply threw him a towel and told him to: “clean it up himself.”

On June 11, 2014, Mr. Parker’s attorney filed a personal injury lawsuit on his behalf in the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna.  The lawsuit alleges that the hospital created an unreasonably dangerous condition and contributed to a deteriorating condition that was a threat to those in the area, among many other contentions.

Mr. Parker’s complaint alleges that there were stains on the floor near the ice machine, which coincided perfectly with the puddle that had formed.  This, according to the plaintiff and his attorney, made it clear that the hospital had known  or should have known about the leaking ice machine but had done nothing to fix it or warn patients of the potentially wet floor.

Mr. Parker seeks compensation for his physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, embarrassment, residual physical disability, impairment of function and loss of enjoyment of life.

In some instances, wet or dirty floors can result in slipping, tripping or falling both inside and outside the premises.  When these accidents occur, people may experience minor to severe injuries, both physical and emotional, that may become long-term issues.  If you or a loved one have fallen and suffered injuries as a result of a store’s negligent operation of its premises, you may be entitled to significant money damages.  For a free and confidential consultation regarding your potential claim, please contact our Boston, MA slip and fall accident attorneys.  We will work efficiently and effectively in pursuing your claim.  Your needs are our top priority!
