Shirley Rice recently received a $7,500 settlement from the city of Saginaw, Mchigan after the Saginaw City Council voted to approve the agreement stemming from Rice’s slip and fall accidents on cracks in the sidewalk near her home.
On two separate occasions in 2010, Rice allegedly tripped and fell on cracks in the sidewalk on the 200 block of North 13th in Saginaw. These trip and fall accidents resulted in personal injuries to Rice.
In a complaint filed against the city in the Saginaw County Circuit Court back in March, Rice alleged that defects in the sidewalk caused her to suffer serious injuries. She claimed that the city was at fault for her personal injuries, because the city failed to maintain the sidewalks in that area. Rice requested that the court award to her $25,000 in compensatory damages.
Attorneys for the city of Saginaw urged the city council to approve a $7,500 settlement in return for Rice dropping her lawsuit. The city council approved the settlement after a vote of members present at last Monday’s city council meeting.
