Police in Minneapolis, Minnesota are investigating how a one year-old child fell off an apartment building balcony, and fell eleven stories to the ground this past Sunday, May 11, 2014. The child is being called a “miracle baby,” because despite falling eleven stories and sustaining serious personal injuries, the child is expected by the doctors to survive.

On Sunday May 11, one year-old Musa Dayib was playing on the balcony of his parents’ apartment in Minneapolis. At that time, he slipped through the balcony railing and fell eleven stories to the ground. Dayib landed in a small patch of mud on the ground, and was quickly rushed to the emergency room at the Hennepin County Medical Center.

Most adults, or children for that matter, would not survive an eleven story fall. According to Dayib’s doctor’s, the chances of surviving a fall such as that are miniscule. Dayib did survive, however, and his doctors are expecting him to make a recovery.

Dayib broke both arms, suffered multiple other fractures, bruised his lungs and suffered other serious personal injuries. While these injuries are substantial and the risk of complications persists as Dayib begins to recover, his doctors are saying that Dayib’s survival is nothing short of “miraculous.”

Police are investigating the safety measures taken by the building’s management company, and the company has released statements regarding the safety measures taken with regard to family with children in the apartments with balconies. The company is expected to add additional safety locks and replace the railings, while offering residents with children temporary blocks that would prevent children from being able to open the door leading to the balcony.
