Rhode Island Woman WIns $1.3 Million In Slip-And-Fall Lawsuit Against Hospital.

A Rhode Island jury has awarded $1.3 million dollars to a woman who was injured at a Rhode Island hospital. The plaintiff filed a lawsuit against Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island after sustaining personal injuries in a slip and fall accident.

In 2006, the woman, Fatima Delacruz, slipped and fell on a wet floor next to an elevator at the hospital. Delacruz broke her kneecap in the slip and fall accident and became permanently disabled.

Delacruz’s attorney argued that the hospital should have acted quickly to warn visitors of the danger, by putting up “wet floor” warning signs outside the elevator. The plaintiff argued that the hospital was negligent in failing to do so, after that area had been washed, and for leaving the floor wet next to a highly trafficked area such as the elevator.

A representative for the hospital has stated that the hospital will move for a new trial, and if that motion is denied, then the hospital will appeal the verdict to an appellate court.
