Massachusetts Slip and Fall Victim Claims Sign Directed Her Towards Wet Floor.

A 56 year-old Massachusetts woman was shopping in a grocery store near her home. She claims that signage in the store directed her towards the slippery floor that caused her to suffer slip and fall injuries.

According to the woman, she was heading towards the store’s exit when a sign directed her to an area where a store employee was in the process of cleaning up a substance that had spilled on the floor.

The wet surface caused the woman to fall on her right knee, fracturing her patella. She was transported to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed the injury.

As a result of the slip and fall accident, the woman had to have knee surgery during which doctors fixed her patella in place with a series of screws. The woman was immobile for roughly 4 weeks before she could begin a roughly two-month stint in physical therapy.

The woman claimed that the store breached its duty to maintain a safe premises, and that the store’s failure to clean up the floor directly resulted in her personal injury. She also alleged that the store exacerbated the problem by directing her towards the unsafe area with the sign.

The woman’s lawsuit was settled for $125,000 before trial.
