Teacher In Philadelphia School Receives $5 Million In Slip And Fall Case.

A slip and fall personal injury accident often results in serious physical injury and emotional distress.  These accidents can happen in retail stores, restaurants, supermarkets, construction sites, or on snow and ice at someone’s home.  Businesses and residences may be held liable for injuries arising out of a slip and fall accident if they do not take adequate precautions to prevent injuries from occurring.  In such a scenario, the services of an expert Boston slip and fall attorney is likely necessary.

Mario Mangano, the director of career services at Mercy Vocational High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was at school preparing for the students to return from summer vacation.  Wargo Floors Inc. was installing new floors in the school’s hallways.  A worker asked Mangano to unlock a classroom so he could continue installing the flooring through the door’s threshold.  When Mangano left her office and walked down the hallway, she slipped on the transparent coating of adhesive that had been applied only a few minutes beforehand.  She landed on her back and sustained several injuries.  Mangano suffered from nerve damage that left her unable to work and now requires the use of a cane to walk.  Furthermore, she was diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome, which causes her skin to be hypersensitive to any movement.

According to philly.com, Mangano has filed a lawsuit against Wargo Floors Inc. in the Philadelphia, PA Court of Common Pleas.  Mangano stated that the employee did not notify her that he had just applied adhesive in the area where she was walking.  Moreover, she claims that he did not tell her that the adhesive is slippery and that she could fall.  She received a settlement of $5 million for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.  Ken Fulginiti of Duffy & Partners represented Mangano in this case.
