Woman Awarded Over $770,000 In Lawsuit Against Town of West Hartford, Connecticut.

According to PR Underground, a slip and fall lawsuit has been won by a Connecticut woman against the town of West Hartford, Connecticut. The plaintiff in the case was a 73 year-old woman. She alleges that on June 7, 2011, at approximately 12:50 in the afternoon, she was walking along the sidewalk at the intersection of South Main Street and Farmington Avenue. While she was walking, she turned her ankle and fell. The cause of her accident was a one and one-half inch height difference between two stones making up the sidewalk.

The plaintiff suffered a complex fracture of her wrist when she fell to the ground. This fracture required her to undergo multiple surgeries. Currently, the plaintiff has medical bills in excess of $95,000. She has also been unable to return to her job as a dental hygienist.

The lawsuit was filed in the Hartford, Connecticut Superior Court by attorney Alan Rome. During the trial, the plaintiff had an engineer testify that the difference in heights between the two stones was unsafe for pedestrians. The defendant never accepted responsibility for the allegedly defective sidewalk and stated that the injuries to the plaintiff were from her own negligence.

After two hours of deliberations, the jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff in the amount of $770,357.65.
