Woman Suing Outback Steakhouse in Los Angeles, California After Slip and Fall Accident.

After a long week of work, many people are too tired to bother with making a full dinner for the family.  So, as an alternative, many Americans often choose the easier option of eating out at a local restaurant.

The restaurant business, as owners will tell you, is a fickle one.  Owning and operating a successful restaurant requires constant vigilance and attention to detail.  Managers and wait staff must be carefully chosen, or otherwise the reputation will suffer.  Food preparation, as well as a high degree of culinary skill, is essential for the long-term success of a restaurant.  Many of these eateries are staples to the communities in which they belong.  Some exist for decades because of the steadfast dedication of their owner(s).  Unfortunately, accidents happen in restaurants on a regular basis.  Slip and fall accidents are particularly common because restaurants are constantly buzzing with commotion.  In the shuffle, a small puddle of water can easily be missed; it can also bring about a civil lawsuit.

In December of 2009, a 53-year-old woman, identified only as “Maureen,” was eating at an Outback Steakhouse in Los Angeles, California.  According to lawyersandsettlements.com, Maureen was sitting down to eat at the restaurant with 7 other family members.  It was just a few days before Christmas and it was raining outside.

Maureen and her family were being escorted to their table when she suddenly slipped and fell on some water on the floor.  She smashed both knees and tore ligaments in both her legs.  Embarrassingly, Maureen was carried outside into an ambulance.  On the way out to the ambulance, the restaurant manager came over and apologized.  He said that she slipped on water and that they had just waxed the floors that morning.

After several x-rays and an MRI, doctors confirmed that Maureen had sprained her leg and damaged cartilage in both knees due to the sudden impact.

Maureen has filed a premises liability lawsuit against Outback Steakhouse and is being represented by Attorney Kip Scott.
