People invite houseguests over for a variety of reasons. Dinner parties, sporting events, or just having good company over to chat are all acceptable occasions for inviting people to one’s house. While guests worry over what to wear or what to bring, hosts are generally concerned with making the house look presentable. While an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere might preoccupy the host, something that is too often overlooked is making sure that one’s home doesn’t present any potential danger for personal injury. While this may sound silly, in-home accidents are relatively common, and present potential liability for homeowners. In such a situation, it would be wise to contact an expert personal injury attorney at 617-787-3700.
When Richard Eichacker, 29, went to a friend’s home in Belleville, Wisconsin, he was no doubt expecting a regular social visit. However, things took a turn for the worse when Eichacker slipped on the homeowner’s stairs. According to the complaint he later filed, he suffered serious injuries, emotional as well as physical, and was forced to miss a significant amount of work as a result of the fall.
The complaint alleges that Justin Johnson, the homeowner, left a number of children’s toys blocking one of the main stairwells. Unable to navigate the impediment, Eichacker suffered his slip and fall. The complaint further alleges that the stairwell was not adequately lit, and that the toys were out for a sufficient period of time that Johnson knew or should have known about the danger that they posed. Eichacker is being represented by attorney Pamela Antonio Brennan.
