Authorities in Forsyth County, Georgia, which is part of the metropolitan Atlanta area, reported a relatively high number of slip and fall accidents during a snowstorm from February 11 to February 13, 2014.
According to data from local authorities, the snowstorm brought fewer car accidents than in previous storms this winter as most area residents chose to stay home, but authorities responded to many more slip and fall and sledding accidents.
The Forsyth County 911 Center received 793 calls for service during this period. These calls included 52 reports of injury incidents, a large portion of which were slip and fall accidents. In addition, emergency responders reported four serious sledding accidents during the snowstorm, most of which involved the sledder colliding with other objects, and one of which involved an accident that occurred while a sledder was being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle. In one of the accidents, a 17-year-old man sustained serious injuries to his upper body and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Following the high number of incidents during the storm, during which local authorities declared a weather emergency, officials urged residents to use common sense when going outside in the snow.
