Fifty-two-year-old Mara Santana was on her way to work as a mail sorter in Rutherford, New Jersey one cool February morning. While in her work’s parking lot, Santana slipped and fell on snow and ice, injuring her leg and back. Santana tore the medial meniscus in her left knee, which required arthroscopic surgery to repair, and suffered bulging discs in her spine.
